Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences has already been operating for over a quarter of a century – autumn 2019 marked 27 years since the start of our operations in Seinäjoki and Ilmajoki.

According to our Strategy, the vision of SeAMK is to be an international and entrepreneur-spirited institution of higher education – the best one for our students. High-quality education is the guiding principle and explicitly articulated goal of our operations.

At present, SeAMK operates on one campus. The gradual relocation of eight educational facilities to one campus has made SeAMK more communal than ever. In 2018, the new building of the School of Health Care and Social Work was erected on the Frami campus, where also the theory classes in Ilmajoki were relocated as of January 2019.

The students have an opportunity to choose multidisciplinary studies across Faculty boundaries, which provides a wider perspective on studying. Also the common restaurant, café, Students’ Living Room and the other facilities on the campuses provide good opportunities for networking, meeting new people, establishing relations, and common hobbies.

We aim to operate as an independent and successful institution of higher education also in future. Our goal is to maintain extensive national and international co-operative networks with working life and other institutions of higher education.

All the fields of study central to working life, commerce and industry are represented at our University of Applied Sciences: Engineering, Business, Culture, Social Work and Health Care, Natural Resources and Tourism, as well as Catering and Domestic Services. These fields of study are offered by four Faculties and research units: the School of Business and Culture, the School of Food and Agriculture, the School of Health Care and Social Work, and the School of Technology.

The School of Business and Culture, the School of Technology and the School of Health Care and Social Work are located on the Frami main campus, Seinäjoki. The School of Food and Agriculture operates in two locations, the Seinäjoki main campus and Ilmajoki. This Faculty combines teaching and competence in Hospitality Management, Agriculture, Food Processing, and Biotechnology.

Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences provides education for approximately 4,800 degree students in six fields of education. Of them, around 75 per cent are full-time students in 18 Bachelor-degree programmes for young people, of which two are instructed in English. At Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, there are 12 Master-level degree programmes in six educational fields. Business Management also features a Master’s degree programme instructed in English.

Apart from the above-mentioned degree programmes, there are also multimodal options aimed especially at people in working life. It is possible to earn a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and take further education courses while working. Bachelor-level multimodal implementations are also available in the six towns covered by the operations of the Regional University of Applied Sciences.

Annually, about 1,000 new students start their studies, and more than 800 students graduate from the Bachelor’s or Master’s programmes. Our most important development task is to develop our learning and teaching methods in such a way that that the instruction we provide is supported by up-to-date competencies gained in working life. In particular, SeAMK strives to develop learning environments based on multidisciplinary project learning. In addition to our traditional cooperation with companies, this has increased our cooperation with small and micro entrepreneurs.

We also promote the implementation of a digital campus. Accordingly, we want to create an up-to-date digital learning environment on the Frami campus. We aim at providing our students with competencies needed in an increasingly international operational environment. Therefore, we focus on international student and staff mobility. There are a wide range of opportunities for studying and doing your practical training abroad, especially in Europe, but also in all the other continents.

Dear student, in this study guide, you will find the curricula of all the degree programmes starting this academic year, together with the related course descriptions. In addition, the guide contains general information about studying at Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences.

I wish you the best of success in your studies!
